The Bartelson-Bidwell party, the first overland emigrants to California, came through Antelope Valley in October of 1841. Captain John Charles Fremont, with guides Tom Fitzpatric and Kit Carson, passed through the Antelope Valley in February of 1844 on their way west. It is still believed that Captain Fremont's cannon is  located somewhere south of the Antelope Valley. Still just sitting there waiting for the right person to find it!

With the excellent year-round weather, Antelope Valley is home to much wildlife. From Canadian Geese, to Bald Eagles to California's largest mule deer herd. Keep your eyes open next time you are down this way, you just never know what you will spot

Our three small communities of Coleville, Topaz and Walker are situated in the Antelope Valley of Northern Mono County, California. The valley is at an elevation of 5300+/- feet above sea level, and is located on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada and the western slope of the Sweetwater range. Due to the 10,000+ foot mountains to the west, the climate here is semi-arid. With sage brush and Pinion pine trees for ground cover, along with Jeffery Pines and Aspens higher up and along the rivers.

From the south of Walker, meandering northward through Coleville and Topaz, the West Walker River is one of many attractions in this northern portion of Mono County. The West Walker River is a designated Wild and Scenic River from it's beginning in the High Sierra, north to the town of Walker. The river continues north to Topaz Lake and beyond.

With the excellent river fishing in the West Walker River and Topaz Lake (located at the northern end of Antelope Valley and well known for it's trophy sized fish), there are also many more year-round activities in the area.
